Queens Mounted Guard

The above gentleman, now nearly 90, was as a teenager was one of the Queens Mounted Guards, this was a period of his life he was very proud of but he only had this one old small black and white photo.

This was a surprise commission so I had a few things to work out, as the photo only had so much information and my limited knowledge of the different items of clothing and their importance.  I also had to work out the colours.

New paragraph

Horse Guards Parade

First I discovered that all the Mounted guards rode black horses, so this narrowed down the colour of the horse to one, but even black horses look different depending if they have been out in the sun for a while, or rugged up as the sun can bleach the black.

Blues and Royals

Next I discovered that he may not have had a red uniform.  It could have been blue.

With some careful research of what made up all the uniforms I worked out he was in fact one of the Blues and Royals.
