Commission a Portrait

If you are looking for a gift or surprise, something for yourself or something to remember a treasured friend, we are here to help and advise.

The Photograph

The majority of commissions are done from photograph's the quality of the photograph is key tot he result of the artwork, if for instance its not a detailed photograph then there is a the risk of missing details that might make up the character.

Tips for the best photograph

1 - be at eye level with your pet when taking the photo (ie crouching), remember it will be on the wall in a position that is likely to be at your eye level.

2 - the best light is outdoors on a dull day, too much light or shade reduces the details, your pet's individuality is to be found in the detail, the eyes and nose are the most important.  If indoors the flash is better turned off.

3 - if you can let me have as many photo's as possible, I stand the best chance of filling in any gaps from other images, also of finding a really good pose that lets the character shine through.

4 - sometimes there are habits that make your pet individual, so a little knowledge helps me spot that pose or twinkle in the eye.

Artwork

There are 3 options for the commission these are:

1 - Pastel - these are the best medium for portraits.  The do need to be framed behind glass (it has to be glass) and are created on pastel mat (a card).

2 - Oil - these can be framed without glass or not framed at all, then can be painted on canvas or board.  This is the most expensive option due the cost of materials but mainly due to the work needed, the drying time and building up of layers.

3 - Charcoal - this is a black and white option, produced on smooth card, as with pastels this would need to be framed behind glass.
